Paint Inspection Ltd supports projects involving intumescent fire protection coatings on structural steelwork. Inspection focuses on the agreed coating system, project information, preparation, application and recorded condition within the defined scope.
Agree the evidence needed
Before inspection, establish the relevant specification, coating manufacturer’s information, steel member references and available loading or thickness schedules. Existing systems may have gaps in their records that need to be identified when defining the scope.
Checks within the agreed scope
PIL’s current sector page describes substrate assessment, primer compatibility review, application monitoring, wet and dry film thickness measurement, defect assessment and remedial inspection. The checks and acceptance criteria must be specific to the project and coating system.
Clear reporting of what was inspected
The proposed reporting scope should identify inspected areas, observations, measurements, photographs and any non-conformities or limitations. Inspection findings support the project team’s decisions; coating inspection alone should not be presented as a blanket guarantee of building compliance or a fire resistance certification.
Discuss your steelwork and programme
Tell us whether the coatings are being applied or already installed, the asset location, current project stage and the information available. We can discuss appropriate inspection support and the evidence required.
